Sightseeing tour of Tbilisi

  • During the tour you will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the sights of the city, visit the architectural and historical monuments that reflect the 1500-year history of the capital. The old city is characterized by a peculiar architecture, residential buildings are distinguished by balconies with Georgian carvings, narrow, cobbled streets. It is significant that in the old city, there are temples of six different faiths.

Today you will see the architectural wonders of the capital:

  • Metekhi Cathedral – founded in the 13th century. In the temple is the burial place of St. Shushaniki, the first Georgian martyr. And next to the church there is a monument to the founder of the city of Vakhtang Gorgasali. Metekhi is a true symbol of the Georgian faith, culture and history. A visit to the building of the Italian architect, the face of modern Tbilisi – Peace Bridge.
  • On the left bank of the bridge is the temple of Sioni, laid back in the 6th century. The venerable age of the temple is also evidenced by the fact that its floor now lies almost three meters below the surface of the pavement.
  • Moving to Mtskheta city-museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A visit to the Samtavro-Preobrazhenskaya church and the convent of St. Nino are some of the oldest Christian monasteries (IV c.). Nino, bramble of St. Nino, grave and cell of the elder St. Gabriel (Urgebadze), the tomb of the holy kings Mirian and Nana.
  • Jvari (VI c.), The temple of the Holy Cross on the top of the mountain at the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi, where, according to legend, the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Nina erected the cross, one of the masterpieces of world architecture and the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in Georgia. In the main cross of the temple is kept a particle of the Life-giving Cross of the Lord.
  • Svetitskhoveli (1010-1029), at the base of which is buried one of the main Christian shrines Chiton of the Lord, as well as the burial place of many Georgian kings. There is also a part of the life-giving pillar.
  • Departure along the Georgian Military Highway, which runs along the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range, is breathtaking and intelligent. Touching alpine landscapes have become more than once an object of inspiration for outstanding writers. We will visit the fortified Ananuri complex (17th century) with stunning views of the Zhinvali reservoir and continue on to Kazbegi. The fortress dates back to the early feudal era and served as an outpost of defense, blocking the road leading from the Darial Gorge. There was also a customs post between north and south. Ananuri Castle has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007.
  • Next, we will visit the Gudauri ski resort, which is located on the Georgian Military Road south of the Cross Pass. Gudauri has the best panoramic views from the resort to the surrounding mountains and gorges in all of Georgia. The resort is located on a large mountain plateau above 2000 meters above sea level.
  • Everyone will be able to do paragliding. Paraglider is an ultralight aircraft, which is made of special fabric and slings. The paraglider is connected to the suspension systems of the passenger and pilot. There is a reserve parachute. A modern wing parachute visually resembles a paraglider, although these are different things. A parachute is a means of salvation, and a paraglider is a full-fledged aircraft.
  • Lunch in Pasanauri – the homeland of Khinkali (included in the price)
Next we continue the path. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the view of one of the highest and most impressive peaks of the Caucasus – Mount Kazbek (5047m.) And climb to the church of the Holy Trinity Gergeti (14th century), at the foot of Kazbek, from where an unforgettable view opens up.
  • The main decoration of Kazbegi and its symbol is the Trinity Church on the mountain above the village of Gergeti, which is part of the village of Kazbegi, now called Stepantsminda, where the Cross of St. Nino was once stored. The temple is picturesquely located on the background of Kazbek, directly above the village of Stepantsminda.

  • Ilya Lake is an artificial reservoir in the Alazani Valley, near the city of Kvareli. It is filled with the noisy Duruji River, carrying its waters among the picturesque mountain ranges and vineyards of Saperavi. The lake got its name in honor of Ilya Chavchavadze, a famous Georgian writer of the early XX century, who was a native of these places. The lake is a recreation and entertainment area. On its eastern shore, cafes and playgrounds were built, a park was established. Boat and pedal boat rental is available.

  • Return to the guest house

Day 5

KVARELI – TSINANDALI – TUSHETI

  • Breakfast.
  • We are going to the Tusheti region for a sense of separation from civilization – for a modern city dweller, who often sees the outside world only on the monitor screen, this will be an amazing return to reality. To try to live at least a few days without mobile communications and the Internet. And just to be alone and think about something important: there are extremely few people here, there is no one to distract.
  • We arrive in the amazing village of Shenako, which is located in the Tusheti National Park. Inspection of the church of St. George, built in the XIX century. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For a sense of separation from civilization – for the modern city dweller, who often sees the outside world only on the monitor screen, this will be an amazing return to reality. To try to live at least a few days without mobile communications and the Internet. And just to be alone and think about something important: there are extremely few people here, there is no one to distract. Also on this day you will visit the fortress Diklo and the village of Omalo – the village where the film “Mimino” was shot.
  • Lunch with a local family
  • The village is located extremely interesting: on almost all sides the flat plain is surrounded by steep slopes, creating something like a yayla. Omalo is divided into two parts – Upper and Lower. The upper one is 200 meters higher, on a separate mountain, and it is there that there is a rock with several Tushino towers, which looks advantageous from any angle. Immediately after the rock, a steep cliff begins, so a separate delight is to climb down to the towers and admire the surrounding plain from there. Here you can see almost all of Tusheti!
  • These towers are the remains of the 13th century Keselo fortress. At that time it was an impressive bandura with 13 towers, which almost did not survive until the end of the twentieth century. The latter, they say, did not survive during World War II – although it was not clear why they were destroyed, to put it mildly. In general, some ruins would have stood on the slope, but in 2003 they began to restore them slowly, and now on the rock near Omalo there are 5 full-fledged towers.

You will have the opportunity to carry out horseback riding. Horse crossings are not complicated and are designed for riders of any level (for an additional fee)

  • Guest house check-in
  • Dinner

Kvavlo is very close to Dartlo, directly above him. You need to climb a steep climb. However, the trek is worth the breathtaking, spectacular view of the surroundings. The villages of Chesho and Parsma are located a few kilometers from Dartlo in the direction of the Khevsureti border. When you move deep to the border, you will notice that most of these villages are abandoned and the buildings are collapsing.
