Day 1

Day 2

TBILISI

  • Breakfast
  • 10.00 Departure for a sightseeing tour of Tbilisi.
  • During the tour you will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the sights of the city, visit the architectural and historical monuments that reflect the 1500-year history of the capital.
  • The very first we will visit the Pirosmani Museum – the place where the artist spent his last days (from 1917 to 1918). The museum is just a tiny little cell under the staircase in the front door, and next to it is another room with a small exhibition: photographs and copies of the paintings by Niko.

Next you will see the architectural wonders of the capital:

  • Metekhi Cathedral – founded in the 13th century. In the temple is the burial place of St. Shushaniki, the first Georgian martyr. And next to the church there is a monument to the founder of the city Vakhtang Gorgasali. Metekhi is a true symbol of the Georgian faith, culture and history. A visit to the building of the Italian architect, the face of modern Tbilisi – Peace Bridge.
    On the left bank of the bridge is the temple of Sioni, laid in the 6th century. The venerable age of the temple is also evidenced by the fact that its floor now lies almost three meters below the surface of the pavement. Tbilisi sightseeing tour includes visits to the following places:
    Abanotubani quarter – from here begins the history of the construction of Tbilisi, because “Tbili” in Georgian means “warm”. Having discovered these sources, King Gorgasali ordered the construction of a city here. In ancient times, these sources were attributed to the magical properties of healing, but now everyone knows the benefits of sulfur baths.

MTSKHETA – JVARI – ANANURI – KAZBEGI

    Initially, we leave for the city of Mtskheta. The streets of the ancient capital of Georgia. Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, Jvari Monastery, located on a mountain at the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi rivers.
  • Svetitskhoveli (1010-1029), at the base of which is buried one of the main Christian shrines Chiton of the Lord, as well as the burial place of many Georgian kings. There is also part of the life-giving pillar.
  • Jvari (VI c.), The temple of the Holy Cross on the top of the mountain at the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi, where, according to legend, the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Nina erected the cross, one of the masterpieces of world architecture and the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in Georgia.
  • Our journey continues along an interesting and picturesque route of the Georgian Military Highway, which historically connected Georgia with the North Caucasus. This is a historic road that will reveal all the beauty of Zhinvali lake.
  • We will visit the Ananuri Medieval Castle.
  • Lunch in Kazbegi restaurant in the khinkali homeland in Pasanauri with excellent Georgian cuisine (included in the price).
  • Next, we go along the dizzying narrow serpentines of mountain roads to the Cross Pass, drive past the Gudauri ski center, and see the extraordinary beauty of the legendary “Celestial” ancient church of the Holy Trinity – Gergeti. And not only admire them from below, we will rise to the temple in jeeps to a height of 2170 m. From here, a stunning view of the Terek river valley, the village of Stepantsminda and the magnificent volcano – Kazbek, covered with eternal snows. Mount Kazbek (Kazbegi) has become a symbol of Georgia. One of the most beautiful peaks of the Caucasus represents Georgia itself – proud, ancient, legendary and mysterious.

Day 4

KAZBEGI – KUTAISI – BAGRATI – TSKALTUBO

    On the way to Surami we will taste the most delicious sweet Georgian nazuki bread. We will also dwell on the pottery market in Shrosha, the ancient cradle of pottery in Georgia. Since ancient times, unusual clay products were made in this village. Poor and unsuitable for farming red sand for local residents is real wealth. Clay is mined in a forest 4-5 km away from the village. For the preparation of any thing, it will be a tone-national bakery for bread, a quarter jug ​​where wine or dishes are stored, the land is carefully selected and processed.

    Kutaisi (Ancient name Aia) is a city in western Georgia. Located on both banks of the Rioni River. The temple, magnificent in size and proportions, became a fundamentally new word in the history of Transcaucasian architecture, was lavishly decorated with carvings and mosaics, and played an exceptional role in the medieval history of Georgia. In particular, it was here that David IV the Builder was crowned.

TSKALTUBO – PROMETHEUS CAVE – MARTVILI CANYONS – MESTIA (SVANETI)

    Georgian legends say that somewhere in the area, angry gods chained a young man to a rock for transmitting divine fire to people. Over the years, every traveler passing through has seen all the torment of a rebellious young man named Prometheus. Often she is also called the Tskhaltubo cave, due to the fact that it is located in the vicinity of the city of the same name. The cave itself was discovered a long time ago, it was studied by archaeologists for a long time and only in 2011 was open to visitors. The length of the entire cave is about 11 km. with several underground rivers and even lakes. Its depth is about 20 meters, and a constant temperature inside the cave is 14 degrees.

  • 15.30. On the way, excursion by boats to Gachedili Canyons (Martvili). During the tour you will ride in an inflatable boat through the canyons of Gachedili. The length of this nature reserve reaches 2400 meters, while the depth ranges from 20 to 40 meters. You will see a stepped cascade waterfall, 12 meters high. The Martivili area is not only remarkable for its nature: in the canyon itself and in its vicinity there are many traces of prehistoric animals, including dinosaurs. Traces of the stay of a primitive caveman were also noticed.
  • 17.15 Departure to Mestia, Svaneti. The road leads along the magnificent gorge of the Inguri River.

Day 6

MESTIA – SVANETI

    Svaneti (Svaneti, Svaneti) is the most beautiful and picturesque alpine region of Georgia, located on the southern side of the main Caucasian ridge. It includes 2 districts: Mestia (Upper Svaneti) and Lentekh (Lower Svaneti). It is in Upper Svaneti that the highest settlement in Europe is located – the village of Ushguli (about 2500 m above sea level). Virgin nature, high mountains and proud towers create an indescribable feeling. The Inguri, Kodori, and Tskhenistsqali rivers are formed here. This ancient, unique land has preserved its originality to this day. The most distinctive feature of Free Svaneti is its battle towers 10 to 20 meters high each – a trace of former warriors and blood feuds. Ancient towers rise to compete with high cliffs. It is generally accepted that they were built in the 12th – 3rd centuries during the “Golden Age” of Svaneti during the reign of Queen Tamara in Georgia. There have been cases when, with blood feuds, men sat in the towers for years, taking with them women and children, food, water, ammunition. The history of the proud, courageous and freedom-loving people of Svan, who retained their language, has several millennia. He was never enslaved by enemies.
    Visiting the museums of Mestia and its environs:
  • Svan towers (architectural patterns that are characteristic only for this region and preserved by dozens in the high-mountain villages of Svaneti. One of the highest peaks of the Caucasus rises above Mestia – the majestic snow-covered Ushba);
  • Christian cathedrals (in Mestia, Lancers and Latali there are temples painted both from the outside and from the inside);
    Museum of Mestia (the exposition is rich in ethnographic materials characteristic of the life and life of Svaneti, ancient manuscripts, religious and household utensils);
  • Dinner (included) and overnight at the hotel.

Day 7

USHGULI – SVANETI

  • 09.30 Departure for an excursion to Ushguli in jeeps (42 km.) Passing through Svan villages;
    On the way unforgettable towers and temples. The road leads along the gorge of the Mulkhura River, and then goes through the pass to the sources of the Inguri River;

  • Ushguli (Included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Ushguli community consists of three villages in which there are several dozen Svan towers and residential buildings. Ushguli is located at an altitude of 2200 m above sea level and is considered the highest permanently inhabited place in Georgia);
  • Museum of the village of Chazhashi (with ethnographic exhibits of a local character);
  • Lamaria complex (a complex consisting of a free-standing tower, a church and a small fortress wall. It offers a magnificent view of the top of Shkhara, which together with dozens of towers creates an unforgettable landscape);
  • Return to Mestia
  • Dinner (included) and overnight at the Mestia Hotel.

Day 8

MESTIA – ZUGDIDI – BORJOMI

  • 12.30 On the way lunch in a restaurant in Zugdidi
  • 13.45 In Zugdidi, a visit to the House-Museum of the Rulers of Megrelia of the Dadiani clan (a 19th century palace with a rich museum fund where the Mother of God’s Chiton and one of the three masks of Napoleon existing in the world are kept.

Day 9

BORJOMI – RABAT – VARDZIA

    On the way we pass the Meskheti region – in the Middle Ages this region was the cultural center of Georgia. According to the poet Shota Rustaveli, it is from here that he came from. Inspection of the monuments of medieval architecture – the restored Rabat fortress and the mosque in Akhaltsikhe.
  • 13.00 Lunch in Akhaltsikhe
  • Then we visit the cave city of Vardzia, which is considered one of the main attractions of Georgia: a high rock rises above Kura and in its sheer wall, like floors, dozens of natural and man-made caves are visible. Moreover, if there are dozens visible from the Kura shore, then in fact there are hundreds of them – the rocky city consists of about 600 caves of natural and artificial origin and stretches along the river for about a kilometer. Vardzia is the Georgian “golden age”.

BORJOMI – BORJOMI PARK – TBILISI

Day 11

TBILISI – KAKHETI – BODBE – SIGHNAGHI – SHUMI – TSINANDALI – GOMBORI PASS

  • 08.00 Breakfast.
  • 09.00 Departure to the wine region – Eastern Georgia – Kakheti. A visit to the Bodbe Convent, where the grave of St. Nino, the enlightener of Georgia, is located. Here the healing spring in the cave beats, where pilgrims bathing is organized (we don’t go down to the spring). Next we will visit the city of love – Sighnaghi, a small very beautiful town surrounded by walls, famous for its unique architecture. The city offers stunning views of the famous Alazani Valley and the Caucasus Range.
  • 13.00 Visit to the family wine cellar-marani of the winemaker Giorgi Getiashvili: here you will have a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the life of the Kakheti peasants, taste local wine directly from qvevri (large clay jugs buried in the ground), participate in the preparation of Georgian dishes.
    At the end, you will find a real Kakheti feast with Georgian dishes and with an unlimited number of house wines, as well as Georgian singing (included in the price).
    14.30 Transfer to Tsinandali.
  • There is a place called Tsinandali in the famous wine-growing region of Georgia, in Kakheti, which gave the name to the famous Georgian wine. The town is located in the Alazani Valley at the foot of the Caucasus Mountains, which led to special natural and climatic conditions. In Tsinandali, we will visit the Shumi winery, you will become familiar with the technology of making Georgian wine.
  • 17.15 Next we visit the estate of Princes Chavchavadze. The estate, now the house-museum of Chavchavadze, where the interiors, furniture and personal belongings of the princes are preserved. The house-museum is surrounded by a magnificent park with a chapel, in which Alexander Griboedov was married to Princess Nina Chavchavadze. Alexander Chavchavdze was the first to establish European-style wine production in Georgia. Inspection of the residence, park and enoteca. An old winery, still open today, visiting the cellar with a winery, a unique collection of wines, the oldest of which is Polish Honey dating from 1814.
  • 18.45 Return to Tbilisi through the beautiful Gombor Pass.
